Hello Ranger friends! It is
Tammy Tutterow here with you today. You may have read recently that
I have joined the Ranger family as the new Social Media Manager. Talk about a fun job! One of the best parts of my job is creating with Ranger products and sharing what I create with you! Today I am excited to share a fun tag project that includes new Distress Spray Stains, Texture Paste, and the new Texture Tools!
Supplies:
- Distress Ink: Vintage Photo
- Distress Stain: Brushed Pewter
- Distress Spray Stains: Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, Peeled Paint, Brushed Pewter
- Distress Paint: Picket Fence
- Texture Paste: Ranger Ink Texture Paste
- Embossing Folder: Tim Holtz Alterations Layered Leaf
- Embellishments: Tim Holtz Idea-ology Remant Rubs- Botanical, Word Bands - Observations, Crinkle Ribbon
- Tools: Texture Tools, Non Stick Craft Sheet, Heat It Craft Tool, Ink Blending Tool, Media Palette Knife, Mister Bottle; Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher

Begin by cutting a small slit in the fold of the Layered Leaf Texture Fade with a craft knife. Cutting a slit in the fold will allow you to place longer items like tags in the folder. For this tag, I wanted to place the tag at an angle which meant the top corner of the tag needed to go through the fold of the folder. Just be sure that when you cut the folder that you cut only a slit and not cut the two sides completely apart.

Run the tag and folder through your die cutting machine to emboss the design onto the tag.

Randomly mist the tag with Brushed Pewter Distress Spray Stain.

Dry the ink with a heat tool.

Use a palette knife to spread Texture Paste over the tag. Apply the paste so that there both thin and thick areas. Fill in the leaf with Texture Paste. As you spread the paste, make sure to scrape the paste away from the embossed leaf design. You can leave some areas of the tag uncovered with paste to allow the Brushed Pewter to show through.

Use the knife to clean up any excess paste on your craft sheet and return it to the jar.

Add random texture to the paste with Texture Tools.

For my tag, I used Texture Tool #4 to add straight lines and cross hatch designs to the upper and lower edges of the tag.

Mist a mixture of Distress Spray Stain colors onto your craft sheet. (I used Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, and Peeled Paint.) Mist the stain with water place in a Mister Bottle. Lay the tag face down into the mix of colors.

Lift the tag up allowing the colors to run and drip. Use a heat tool to dry the stain. Continue to dip, drip, and dry the tag until you hare happy with the colors. Leave some areas of the paste uncolored to add some brightness.
Although you are covering the Brushed Pewter, the sparkle from it will layer with the colors above it giving them a subtle metallic shimmer.

When you are finished coloring the tag, use the remaining stain on the craft sheet to color Crinkle ribbon.

Open the embossing folder and lay it flat on your craft sheet. Rub over the inside of the front of the folder with a Vintage Photo Distress Ink pad. Using the ink pad will keep the ink on the raised areas only. On the inside front of the folder, the raised areas will be the area around the leaf and the inside leaf detail.

Place the back side of the tag against the inside back of the embossing folder. Place the corner of the tag through the slit again. Move the tag around until you have matched up the embossed design on the tag and the matching raised design on the embossing folder. They will nest in place together when matched up.

Close the front of the folder over the front of the tag. Run the folder through your die cutting machine again.

The ink applied to the folder will print around the embossed leaf design. It creates a shadow-like image The folder will also emboss the design again into the Texture Paste.

Brush the edges of the tag with the applicator of Brushed Pewter Distress Stain.

Apply Picket Fence Distress Paint to a Tim Holtz Word Band.

Use a heat tool to dry the paint until it is only slightly tacky.

Mist Brushed Pewter Spray Stain over the paint. Allow the stain to sit for a moment or two. Lightly blot the stain with a dry cloth and dry with a heat tool.

After drying with a heat tool, the combination of the paint and stain will get a almost crackle-like finish.

The Brushed Pewter gives the Picket Fence Distress Paint a pearly finish. Caution- Metal embellishments get very hot when heated. Allow them to cool completely before handling.

To add a bit of age, lightly brush Vintage Photo Distress Ink over the Word Band using an ink blending tool.

Place dyed Crinkle Ribbon through the Word Band. Tie the ribbon and Word Band around the tag. Add a Tiny Attacher staple to each side of the tag to hold the ribbon in place.

With such a gorgeous background, you will want to keep embellishments simple. Choose embellishments like text rub-ons (Tim Holtz Botanical Remnant Rubs) that will accent the background and not draw attention away from it.

I absolutely love the way ink settles into the grooves of the Texture Paste. Look at the depth it adds! Each one of those lines is a ripple in the Texture Paste. In a bit of a happy accident, it looks and feels like woodgrain- so perfect with the colors and the leaf image!

The shadowing around the embossed leaf is just so amazing. It really accentuates the dimension of the leaf!

I love the pretty touch the simple Brushed Pewter border adds. It defines the edge of the tag without competing for attention.

I wish I could pass this tag around to all of you to see in person and to touch. The texture is just so amazing and the color is so rich! If you haven't tried Texture Paste yet, you really need too! It adds so much texture to your projects. Best of all, it takes inks and color like a dream!
